Well, it's been a while so I feel like I owe you guys an explanation.
I haven't given up on my 365 project (in fact, I have a few photos that need to be edited and uploaded), BUT I have put it on hold for now. A very important person in my life passed away on February 13, so I've lost some steam since then and haven't been taking any pictures really. I'm still photographing things, just not myself. I'll be picking up where I left off today and hopefully keeping it up.
I might write more about this later, I just can't seem to make myself do anything at the moment.

Keep Up With Me
COMMUNITY COMES BACK ON TONIGHT!!! I can't stop listening to everything by Childish Gambino. Plus, the song title is kinda relevant, right? So check this out.
This is reminding me that I haven't done Music Monday in a lightyear.
I bet you thought I'd have given up on my 365 by now, hmm? I can't blame you based on how often I forget to update y'all (have I even talked about which car I ended up with after that one post?) but it's easy to blow off updates when you have no readers, haha. This project is something I'm doing for myself, though, so it's a bit easier for me to keep up with.
Here are the photos from the past week or so!
À bientôt!

As always, you can check them out over at Tumblr and at Flickr - where I actually usually put a brief description of my day or the concept I was going for, etc.
I'll be honest and just let you know that I have skipped two days in a row now (February 5-6) but, in my defense, my memory card was in the computer so I could download and edit these! I'm determined to get back on the Crappy Photo Train when I'm off work tonight!

Yeah Yeah
Don't give up on me yet! Here are days two and three of my 365 project:
You can check them out over at Flickr or Tumblr if you're so inclined. I know they're a bit uninspired, but with 12-hour shifts over the past few days I'm surprised I've managed to keep up with them at all. Although, admittedly I haven't shot today's yet so...

Day One
I am not the type of person who makes New Years resolutions. At all. The added (imagined) pressure ruins it for me. So, as usual, I didn't waste any time December 31 thinking up crap that would only be abandoned a few days later anyway. But that doesn't mean I don't have goals, because I do. Big time. One of those goals is to use my camera more and really get to know it. I bought a Nikon D5000 back in 2011 and I'll be the first to admit I haven't been all that serious about learning to use it properly.
I have used it to take a passport photo, post gratuitous pictures of my cats, it's been to New Orleans (which are some of my favorite photographs, actually) and I dragged it along to France with me as evidenced here and here. Obviously I've used it more than that, those are just the few instances I've documented here.
Anyway, all this is just to say that I've decided to start a 365 project like every other blogger ever. I'm hoping it will force me to get used to using my camera and bringing it everywhere with me. Here's today's attempt:
I know, I know. I actually had kind of a cool concept in mind (well, to be fair, any concept is a cool concept to me because I usually shoot with no idea about the end product) of using the lens cap as my other eye, but sadly it wasn't meant to be. I took today's shots focusing manually without and kind of remote or anything (I tried to use one but the cheap piece of crap I bought on Amazon refused) and most of them came out blurry. So even though the composition and execution of this one are horrific, here you go. I decided not to put it off until I could come up with a better starting photo because then I'd never begin at all. The whole point is to improve, anyway, so maybe I'll revisit this idea when I'm a little less rushed and a little more proficient.
I will also be posting the images over at Tumblr and Flickr because I love to create more work for myself and hate websites that use "e" in the URL even when appropriate.

Ramble On
All of my posts lately are about me buying something. Now that school's over until Spring semester (my last!) I'm basically just bouncing between my two jobs to pay for all these unexpected bills.
I was basically t-boned on my way to work at 6:30 in the morning back in October. Coming out of a toll booth, I guess I was in the blind spot of a church van towing a trailer. They were on their way to the airport to leave for a mission trip to Guatemala and had missed their exit, so they tried to make an illegal u-turn back onto the turnpike. As a result, they didn't merge into me or nick the side of my car, they literally turned into my car. I slammed on my brakes and managed to take the damage up near the front passenger wheel rather than at the center of my car. Their van went off into oncoming traffic while my sad little 2003 Ford Focus spun around almost to the right side of the road.
As crunched up as the front side looks on the outside, the inside of my car looked like nothing had happened at all. I hit my head on the steering wheel but ended up being totally fine, as was everyone in the church van. They were all very nice people and immediately admitted that it was their fault (although I was glad that the toll booth camera caught the whole thing so even if they had tried to pin it on me I would have been okay). The problem is that their van was insured by a place that only does big groups - schools, obviously churches, etc.
They took for. ev. er. to do anything.
Luckily my own insurance covers roadside assistance and towed my car to my house for me that day since it was undriveable. I had to borrow my mom's car for four or five days before they even issued me a rental - a Nissan Versa hatchback I actually loved despite it being one of the ugliest cars ever. I had the rental for almost 40 days, but only because I had to keep calling and hounding them to extend the deadline since I was carless. Once they issued the check for my car being totaled I had to turn the rental car in within two days. This would be no big deal except it took the check OVER TWO WEEKS to get to me, so I was stuck borrowing my mom's car again. I am so lucky to have parents close enough who are able to loan me one of their cars, otherwise I have no clue how the insurance company expected me to get around Florida (we have the worst public transportation - everything is incredibly spread out and even if it were available my work is 45 minutes away by car so I can't imagine the commute on a bus) between then and now.
Anyway, I had actually been saving up to get a new car before this so I had a couple thousand in the bank. Combined with the money I was given by the insurance company and a loan from my Grandma (she has the money and offered me the loan so I can avoid interest, which I am super grateful for), I've been on the hunt for a used car.
One evening of test drives and hopping from dealership to dealership later and I've narrowed it down to two options:
I know those are terrible comparison pictures, but look at this handy table I created for you/actuallyforme to compare! I left out all the things that are the same - they're both sedans, automatic transmissions, etc. And no, I have no idea what the stuff under "Engine" means. I even calculated that it will cost me about $55 to fill up the Sonata and $41 to fill up the Civic based on the current gas prices around my house. I drive a little less than 70 miles round trip to work. In the Civic that would cost about $6.34 a day, so I'd get a little over 6 days of commuting out of one tank. In the Sonata that's around $7.16 in gas each day, meaning I'd get an extra two days before having to fill up the tank but obviously it costs me more per day since the Civic's MPG is better. The Sonata is a lot fancier with a bunch of luxury features like a sunroof, power seat controls, iPod hookup, seat warmers, leather seats, and a bunch of swanky little things displayed on the rear view mirror, but I really loved the Civic. The Civic is priced as expected and the Sonata is majorly discounted down to a price I can afford, but the out the door price with tax, tag, and title comes out to about $300 less than the Civic, so it's really down to which one I like better.
Once my mom gets out of work I am hitting up the dealership with the Civic to spend more money at one time than I probably ever have in my life. If it's been sold in the past 24 hours then the Sonata at the dealership literally across the street is my not-so-disappointing backup plan. Either way, this has become the longest entry every just to say this: AFTER 60 DAYS WITHOUT ONE, I AM FINALLY GETTING A NEW CAR TODAY!
